Grizzly Gazette Jan 16 – 20

Dear Parent(s),

Since being at Gibson over the past two years I often hear about the traffic congestion around our school.  It can be very frustrating for everyone and unsafe, for example, people parking over cross walks or double parking.  Since September, we introduced the walking school bus, and it has had some success.  Many students are walking from their homes, but we need more cars dropping their kids off at the Delview Park parking lot to alleviate traffic in front of our school, at Delview high school, or on Pemberton Crescent.  If you could leave 20 minutes earlier and drop your kids at the Delview Park parking lot by 8:30 am and pick them up 20 minutes after school at 3:20 at the same location, you would have a safe and stress-free driving experience each day.

Not only is the walking school bus great for parent drivers, it allows your child to get fresh air and continue to lead a healthy lifestyle.  The Walking School Bus is supervised by parent volunteers to make sure your child(ren) are safe at all times. Our term 2 kickoff for the Walking School Bus will be Tuesday Jan. 17th at 8:20. There will be coffee, tea, and treats for everyone who participates.  Also, if you try the Walking School Bus, by dropping your child off in the morning and picking up in the afternoon, you will be given a ballot to be placed in a draw to win one of three $30 gift cards to Cactus Club.  You can collect one ballot for each day you come.  Our hope is to get parents involved, try this program, and see how well it works.  We know it is a big change, however, it could make your morning and after school driving experience amazing and stress free.  Please check out our commercial attached called Drive to 5.

I have also attached a map to show the Delview Park parking lot with a red star (northeast corner of the park). Reminder, the Walking School Bus leaves at 8:30 am and students will be back at the parking lot at 3:20 pm for pickup.  Please come and join us on Tuesday Jan. 17th and try this incredible program that will provide many benefits for all.

Thanks,

Mr. Penny
